Music for Early Childhood
by Robin Lever, Composer and Musician

- Music is a great channel for young childrens burgeoning creativity.
- The pre-school years are a time when your childs curiosity in the world is at a peak and musical activity can be a very rewarding part of this process.
- When children manipulate objects in different ways, they are actually developing their motor skills and physical coordination.
- Movement and music go together naturally for the young child who tends to move when they make sounds and make sounds when they move.
- Pre-school children can be very creative in their own song-making. Words and rhythms are usually copied more easily with melody being introduced later on.
- By regularly singing to your child, whenever you feel like it, and in response to music you listen to together, you will encourage your child to sing. Eventually confidence will build and skills will develop.
