Finding Box

Black and white picture of the Finding Box

Make a Fimbly box to keep all of the magical things you find inside.

Remember to ask a grown-up for help.

You will need:

This should take about 60 minutes
  • Print-outs (3 pages)
  • Flour
  • Water
  • Bowl
  • Coloured string
  • Newspaper
  • Shoe box with lid
  • Safety scissors
  • PVA glue
  • Tissue paper
  • Paints

Step 1

Bowl and a box

Mix equal parts flour and water in a bowl until they form a thick paste.

Tear the newspaper into small strips, then dip each one into the bowl of paste and cover the outside of the shoebox and lid.

Step 2

A box and glue

Take sheets of tissue paper, scrunch them up and flatten them out. Using more paste, stick them over the areas you have covered with newspaper.

Step 3

Painting the box

Mix some pale blue poster paint with PVA glue around the inside and cover it with tissue paper. Try using colourful tissue paper to make it look magical.

Step 4

Gluing the box

Once your box has dried, dab some PVA glue around the inside and cover it with tissue paper. You can use the print out leaf template as a guide.

Whilst the box is drying cut out some leaf shapes from your sheets of coloured tissue paper. You can use the print out leaf template as a guide.

Step 5

Finished box

Dip the tissue leaves in PVA glue and stick them over the outside of the box and lid.

Take some strips of coloured string, dip them in the glue and use them to write your name on the box lid.

Now your Fimbly Finding Box is finished!

Every time you get the Fimbling feeling and find something magical, you can place it in your finding box. Put on the lid and it will be your special secret.
