The mollusc with the replaceable arms

  • The octopus is a mollusc and so it's related to slugs and snails.
  • It has no bones or shell but its soft body hides a powerful beak-like mouth and strong tentacles.
  • Its squidgy body allows it to squeeze through gaps no bigger than its eye to escape predators such as eels, dolphins and sharks.
  • If threatened, it will switch to jet power, sucking water into the body and shooting it out of a special tube for a quick getaway.
