I'm helping earthquake victims

Press Packer Marielle lives in Peru, a country in South America.

Marielle's school has been helping children affected by a powerful earthquake, which struck a small town called Chincha.

Here's her report.

"A couple of months ago, Peru was hit by a big earthquake, measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale.

A lot of damage was done and more than 800 homes were destroyed. Many of the people who lived in those houses are now living in tents.

So far, my school has raised about £17,000, as well as food and clothing to help the people of Chincha.

Poor children

My school is helping more than 500 children, by building schools and providing electricity and running water, made out of safe material for these poor children to continue their daily lives.

We've been asking people to donate toys and clothes to the children of Chincha. We have also been rebuilding schools, mostly out of wood.

Painting classrooms

I've been to Chincha about three times now. I've helped varnish tables and chairs and painted the wooden classrooms. .

The last time I was in Chincha, we built about five wooden classrooms and more than seven ''estera'' classrooms in just four days - with more than 89 volunteers!

I've lived in Peru since I was a baby, but I always visit the UK when we have time.

I'm really proud of what we are doing and I enjoy helping the children affected by the earthquake.

Marielle, 12, Peru
