Find out how to build your mini pond to attract wildlife.
The pond plants brookline and watercress are GREAT for attracting newts, so if you can, try and use these for your pond!
Don't use tap water as it can contain dissolved gases and chemicals, like nitrogen and phosphorus, which are bad for plant and animal life.
Step-by-step 'Build Your Mini Pond' guide
Follow the steps below or print out the instructions.
Cover the bottom of the tin bath or plastic tub with your washed sand.
Place your clay pots on the bottom, all close together. Make sure they are upside down, so little animals can hide!
Place 2 large flat stones over all three clay pots - you may need a grown up to help with this!
Place your plants in their pots on the bottom of the bath or tub. To stop the plants from floating away, put two handfuls of gravel on top.
Scatter your remaining gravel and place your remaining stones at the bottom of the tin bath or plastic tub. You can add smaller stones on top to create more places for animals to hide.
Fill the basin with the rainwater you collected and now wait for the animals
to find your new pond!
