Find out how to build your very own den.
Make sure you're picking branches off the ground and not
cutting bits off living trees. If you can only find thin branches, then tie
them together to make them thicker and stronger. However, steer clear of big
bits of wood or anything too big or heavy!
To make a waterproof den, use waterproof material and lots of leaves.
Remember, always take someone with you and let an adult know
where you’re going.
Choose the type and
structure of your den: big or small, wood-based (chairs, tables, broom handles, poles, fallen branches) or cardboard boxes, or a mixture. Look outside and in the house
(ask your parents or guardians) for any materials that you can use – be

rags to tie your den structure together – remember you want a good sturdy frame.
Once you have a
structure, it’s time to decorate: you can colour or paint the inside or outside
of the cardboard boxes, use old and colourful sheets, blankets or fabric, or
weave twiggy branches between the bigger branches and add leaves – you decide!
