Learn how to make Welsh rarebit.
You will need
Knives and forks
250g of grated cheese
100ml whole milk
2 tablespoons of finely shredded leek
1 teaspoon of grain mustard
1 egg beaten egg
2 slices of bread
To prepare to make this Welsh Rarebit you will need to chop your leeks and grate your cheese. You can also put extra ingredients on the toast such as mushrooms, ham, sweet chutney and tomatoes so get them prepared too.
Heat the milk with the mustard and shredded leeks in a pan until the leeks are soft. Remember to ask an adult to help you.
Add the grated cheese and stir over a low heat until melted.
Carefully remove from the heat and add the flour. Place the pan back on the heat and stir until thickened slightly.
Remove from the heat and stir in the egg, then leave to cool. The
mixture will thicken and set on cooling.
While the mixture cools, toast your bread.
Then butter your toast (if that's how you like it!)
Spread the mixture onto the toast and add your extra ingredients if you want to. Place under a hot grill, or into a hot oven and cook until puffed and golden. Then all you need to do is to take it out of the oven and enjoy your Welsh Rarebit.
