Post to: Blue Peter, 2nd Floor, BBC Bridge House, MediaCity UK, Salford, M50 2BH.
Open the cereal box at both ends and cut down one side to open the box out flat. Repeat this step for both boxes.
Print out your template. Draw around each one and transfer all the markings onto your cardboard and then cut out. Take care using scissors and ask an adult for help if neccessary.
Using your leftover cardboard, cut out strips to approx. 30cm long. Measure these around your head and carefully staple 2 strips together to make a ring to sit on your head.
Attach one of the 30cm strips from the front to the back and secure with a staple. Then add a strip from side to side to create a cross shape which will form a strong head support for your mask.
Take your face piece and fold the top flaps inwards 2mm and secure each flap with a staple.
To give more shape to your ears take the long side flap and pull it forward and staple in place to create a curve to your ear. Then attach your ears to the face piece with one ear on each side.
You will start to see your mask taking shape!
Now you need to mould the trunk, to do this start at the top and overlap each flap very slightly and staple in place, this will make your trunk curve slightly. Do this on both sides and then attach the trunk to the bottom of the face with a staple on each side. Make sure you attach it with the trunk curving downards.
Your mask is now ready for decorating!
You can attach your mask to your head support before or after you decorate it, but if you do it after make sure you wait until the paint is dry!
To attach your mask to your head support staple together at the top of the trunk and base of the face through the head support band.
To decorate your mask paint it any colour and add as many colourful details such as glitter, tissue, sequins, sweet wrappers and tin foil as you like to make it bright and unique.
