Measure out your ingredients and mix them together: 300g of plain flour, 300g of salt and water. Add the water a little at a time and mix until it forms the dough.

Put down greaseproof paper and knead the dough.

Draw out your template shape on greaseproof paper and cut it out.

Then roll out the dough evenly onto greaseproof paper until it is about 1.5cm thick. Next put your template on the dough and get an adult to help you cut out the shape.

Take a large paper clip, and push it in at the top of your nameplate.

Draw and cut out your letter templates on greaseproof paper. Roll out some dough, stick on your template and get an adult to help you cut them out. Take the cut out letters and press them onto your nameplate.

Ask an adult to help you place the decorated nameplate in the oven on a low heat (150ÂșC/Gas Mark 2) and bake for 2.5 hours, or more, until the dough has dried out and hardened. Alternatively, you can leave your dough to dry naturally which takes 1 - 2 days.

When your dough has cooled, paint your nameplate. Once the paint is dry you can add a border to your nameplate using a permanent marker pen.

For a shiny finish, ask an adult to help you varnish your nameplate using some spray varnish (available at art shops), or cover your nameplate in PVA glue, which will then dry clear!

Hang your finished nameplate on your door!
You can also add decorations to your nameplate by cutting out shapes from card and imprinting shapes into your plate.
