Wizards vs Aliens: Scott and Percelle Answer your Questions

Scott Haran and Percelle Ascott who play Tom and Benny in Wizards vs Aliens answer questions from the CBBC Messageboards.

Read on to find out what the guys' favourite episodes are, what they'd do if they saw an alien in real life and if there's going to be a 2nd series of Wizards vs Aliens!

Scott and Percelle: We just watched the last episode of the series! Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We're ready to start answering your questions!

What would you prefer to be, wizard or alien?

Scott: That's easy. For me it would be wizard.
Percelle: For me it would be a geek.

What were your ambitions when you were young?

Percelle: My ambition was to be a pilot when I was younger. I had a fascination with planes.
Scott: When I was young I was obsessed with Fireman Sam so I really wanted to be a fireman. And I also really wanted to be a footballer.

Scott - How do you make the magic look so cool?

Scott: When you're doing the spells you need to really mean it! It's the help from the graphics team as well that makes it look so spectacular.

What is it like being on television and is it hard to remember your lines?

Percelle: You go through all the emotions. Sometimes you cringe at the stuff you do and sometimes you're happy.
Scott: It's sometimes good being able to watch yourself when you can be happy with what you did. And when you see something that you're not happy with you can use that to improve for next time. It definitely gets eaiser as it goes on.

Which life would you prefer - your normal life or having magic to fight aliens?

Percelle: The wizard life, fighting aliens for me definitely.
Scott: I'd say the wizard life too. Fighting aliens every day would give you a lot on your plate but the magic would make it worth it.

Are you anything like your characters in real life?

Scott: I'll answer for Percy. I'd say he's absolutely nothing like his character in real life. He's not smart... no I'm joking. But he is completely different to Benny.
Percelle: I'd say there's a lot of difference between us and our characters. 
Scott: But there are similarities too!

What one word would you use to describe the aliens?

Scott: Evil
Percelle: Complex

Is there going to be a 2nd series of Wizards vs Aliens?

Scott: There is going to be a second season but we'll let you know more next year! 

Do you have any pets and if you do, what are they?

Percelle: I have no pets at all.
Scott: I do. I have two dogs - Macy and Ramsey. A German Shepherd and a Huskie.

Did the Nekross King ever freak you out in real life?

Percelle: The first time I saw the Nekross King was very interesting. It surpassed my expectations. I was blown away.
Scott: When I saw it I knew it would do its job of scaring people on TV. But I wasn't scared!

If you really were a wizard for a day what would you do?

Scott: I'd fly somewhere, somewhere across the world.
Percelle: One power I would like is to read people's minds so I would probably go around investigating.
Scott: I'd use magic in the wrong way to get everything for free and break a few rules.
Percelle: But you'd have to do something good too. So have fun then save the world.

Can either of you do magic tricks in real life?

Scott: I can do a card trick but it's really bad. Everyone knows the magic part already because I'm quite obvious about it.

What was your most embarrassing moment whilst filming the series?

Scott: Mine would be the football scene where I had to score a goal with magic. There was a whole crowd there in the scene and I really messed up the first shot in front of everyone and it looked like I couldn't play football, so that was embarrassing.
Percelle: In episodes 3 and 4 when we were running away from the Grazlax, I pulled a door handle off, but luckily it was ok.

What would you prefer - ice cream or chocolate?

Percelle: Ice cream
Scott: Chocolate!

Percelle - Are you really a science lover or is it just in the show?

Percelle: When I was younger I had an enquiring mind when it came to science. I'm not as smart as Benny but I can act like a smart person. I like gadgets myself and Benny has the same sort of passion.

Scott - Would you rather eat slugs or be captured by the Nekross?

Scott: I'd have to say the slugs. The Nekross are scary!

Which has been your favourite episode?

Scott: Mine would be the Rebel Magic episode, part 1 and 2. That was the first time I had to express extreme emotions and show Tom's vulnerable side, so that was fun to play.
Percelle: Mine would be episodes 9 and 10, The Fall of the Nekross, because there were a lot of special effects so Benny was in his element blowing up the school computers and taking down the Nekross. It was an important episode for Benny.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Scott: Right now, America, for me. I've really got an obsession with it. I'd love to go there and work or live.
Percelle: Asia. Probably Malaysia. Somewhere so far away from our culture.

How did you start acting and what tips would you give to people who want to get into acting?

Scott: I always acted through school and college. Basically school plays were how I first got involved with acting. My advice would be to get yourself involved in absolutely anything, whether it's theatre groups or school plays. You never know who might be watching.

What character would you be if you couldn’t play yourself?

Scott: I would love to play Benny because I've seen how Percy plays it and I'd love to live up to how funny he plays it.
Percelle: I'd love to play Tom!

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?

Percelle: Probably just the family being united and the Christmas atmosphere and vibe.
Scott: I love everyone getting together but I love it when they play all the Christmas films on TV. My favourite's The Grinch.
Percelle: My favourite is Elf.

Scott - In 'Fall Of The Nekross' Part 2 your character spoke to the stones. Was it embarrassing to have a made up conversation out loud?

Scott: It was quite embarassing because it wasn't anything I'd done before. You had to say the lines in a certain way and be a certain way physically. It was a hard thing for me.

If you weren't actors what would you like to be?

Percelle: It's a very good question. There are a few things I'd like to be. One would be a pilot. Or something in TV like a writer or a director.
Scott: It's the same for me. Not the pilot part but something in TV whether it's directing or presenting.

If you were faced with a real alien what would you do?

Percelle: I would run.
Scott: I'd like to be the brave one here but my first instinct would be to run. I'd try and take a picture of it first, then run.
