Before you start, preheat the oven to 180°C or Gas Mark 4. If you are one of our younger viewers then get an adult to help you.
To make 20 medium-sized gingerbread men, sift together the plain flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger and cinnamon. Use a sieve as it helps remove any big lumps.
Then, using your hands, mix together with the butter.
Rub the ingredients between your fingers and thumb – it’s a bit like when you click your fingers!
Once the mixture looks like breadcrumbs, stir in the sugar.
This is where you add the egg. Here are the top tips on how to crack an egg properly:
Lightly beat the egg and the golden syrup together.
Add your egg mixture to your flour and butter mixture and mix together with your hands until it all sticks together.
Then tip the dough out, knead briefly until smooth, wrap in cling film and leave to chill out in the fridge for 15 minutes.
Here's where your gingerbread men take shape!
Roll out the chilled dough so it's about half a centimetre thick, and cut it out with gingerbread man-shaped cutters.
Place the biscuits on a lined baking tray and bake for 12- 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Make sure to use oven gloves, and if you are one of our younger viewers then get an adult to help you.
Once they are out of the oven, make sure they are cool before you start decorating otherwise the icing will run all over.
Get decorating! You can turn the gingerbread men into your favourite pop stars or even your friends. You can use icing, chocolate, sprinkles…anything really!
