He ran away from home many times, getting mixed up with inappropriate people; always seeking something, never finding it. He eventually drifted into a series of dead end jobs - nothing fulfilling and nothing that lasted longer than a few months.

Alone and drifting, Alistair ended up living rough in a shopping centre, convinced that he'd been unfairly treated and misunderstood.

When he meets Polly, Alistair feels that he's found a kindred spirit - someone whom he can love and will love him back. Someone who will, finally, understand him.
