Usain Bolt will be hot favourite to make it a golden sprint double at the Olympics Games in Beijing after cruising into the
200m final.
The Jamaican, who won the 100m in a world record 9.69 seconds, jogged next to American rival Shawn Crawford in the last 60m to win his semi-final in 20.09 secs. Although Bolt will be odds-on to win the event, it is not as easy to determine where the other medals will go. Netherlands Antilles' Churandy Martina, a surprise fourth in the 100m final, looked impressive in winning the first semi in a time of 20.11 secs. Although defending champion Crawford battled for his second place behind Bolt in the second semi-final, he will certainly be in the mix for a medal along with compatriot Wallace Spearmon, who came through to take third. Bolt once again looked so comfortable that some commentators are asking whether he will break Michael Johnson's world record. 'Coasting'
And he promised to run through to the line in Wednesday's final. "I'm just going to run my heart out and hope for the best," Bolt said. In seven races so far, he has not once pushed himself, even coasting to a world record in the 100 in 9.69 seconds, .03 faster than his previous mark. "I wouldn't say jogging," Bolt said. "I'm just trying to get through to the next round." Also through to the final is veteran Kim Collins of St Kitts and Nevis, giving the Caribbean three representatives. |
