Career Choices - what's in a job

Career choices graphic
There are a range of career options in the region
BBC Caribbean Radio's Career Choices series on Caribbean Magazine is designed to help teenagers and young adults look more closely at various professions and hear from people already doing these jobs.

If you have a particular career in mind, find out what it’s like to do this job - how to pursue it, what the salary is likely to be and the pros and cons of the job?

If you're not sure of your career choice, then we hope these testimonies might help.

Social Work

We went to Trinidad and Tobago and spoke with Christine Wharton, a counsellor and Trudy Herrera, a social worker.

Policing
Inspector Paul Slowe has been working in Guyana's police force for over 30 years. He told Caribbean Magazine's Career Choices, that inspite of the danger and low pay he would encourage young people to take up a career in the force.

Journalism
Is journalism all about fame and fortune? Veteran caribbean journalist Julian Rogaers says not so.

For young journalists with aspirations of cracking the international market, he encourages a firm local grounding first.
