About You

We are looking for exceptional people who are prepared to work hard to prove themselves and progress their careers in one of the UK’s most creative and exciting organisations. You will need to be flexible and positive, able to take on new challenges and enjoy being part of a variety of teams.

We welcome people with different backgrounds and experiences into the BBC.  You will  have a drive to be creative and  demonstrable evidence of your passion for using media to tell stories. You certainly don’t need to have worked in TV or Radio before but you’ll need to demonstrate why you have got what it takes.

We’re also keen to hear from people with a real understanding – or direct experience – of the issues facing the diverse communities which make up the UK. We want our production teams to reflect the many backgrounds and life experiences of the people who make up our audience.

Must haves:
Evidence of your passion for telling stories
Evidence of your organisational ability
The willingness and ability to work flexibly.

When you apply for the Production Talent Pool you can specify a role and the location where you want to work. However, if successful on the Production Trainee Scheme  you will be required to move productions every four months, and spend at least two of your four-month work placements outside of London. You will also often be required to work unsocial hours.

We want applicants to be realistic about what it is like to work in Television, whilst it is often great fun it is also a lot of hard work and not as glamourous as you might think.

Please look at the questions below and ask yourself, is this for you?

Are you willing to work long, unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends?

Working in production is not a 9-5 job. It often involves going out on location, working long hours in irregular patterns.

Are you resilient enough to take the stresses of the job on the chin?

Tight deadlines and pressure mean that production jobs are not for the faint hearted. You need to be sure you have the resilience to take the pressure.

Are you prepared to be flexible about your location?

On the Production Trainee Scheme we ask you to switch locations every four months. In the Production Talent Pool you can specify a location – but, you may have to travel as part of the job, often at short notice.

Do you want to be a presenter?

We are not looking for presenters.

Do you want to be a news journalist?

We will not be offering work in news areas. Please apply for the Journalism Trainee Scheme.

Are you prepared to do routine tasks?

We are not interested in hiring people who think routine tasks are beneath them. Even the smallest task has a value in a production.

Do you want job security?

There are few guaranteed jobs or long term contracts in the broadcasting industry. In general, you will be as good as your last job and may have periods when you are not working at all.

Do you only want to apply for the Production Trainee Scheme?

The Production Trainee Scheme is only open to successful candidates to the Production Talent Pool. So, even if you are not successful on the Production Trainee Scheme, you’ll still be eligible for paid work and gain valuable experience.

Successful candidates to the Production Talent Pool do not have to apply for the Production Trainee Scheme. But we do encourage you to, as it’s a great opportunity.
