  1. When do work experience placements take place?

    We advertise work experience placements every three months for placements that quarter. For example we’ll advertise placements in January for February and March. Follow @BBCCareers on Twitter for updates.

    You can specify the time period you want your placement to take place when you apply.

  2. When will I hear if I have been selected?

    Work experience in the BBC is very popular and we receive a lot of applications. This means shortlisting can take a while, so please bear with us.

    We will be in touch whether you are successful or not. If you are successful, we will try to give you a call at least 2 weeks before the placement commences. If you are unsuccessful in your application this time around we will notify you by email.

  3. Who do I contact if I need help during the online application process?

  4. Where will the work experience take place?

    Opportunities for work experience are available in various UK locations. You can see the location of each placement before you apply.

    Remember: If successful, you will be responsible for organising your own accommodation, travel arrangements and any costs incurred, including expenses.

  5. Can I apply for work experience in more than one category?

    We are only able to accept your application for one work experience category. We offer placements in various locations in TV, Radio, News & Journalism and Business and Support, so you should think carefully before choosing which one you want to apply for.

  6. I can see that my application is showing as Application Submitted, what does this mean?

    Congratulations you have completed the application form and successfully submitted it to us. We will be in touch by phone or email as soon as possible.

  7. My application status is showing as In Review, what does this mean?

    This means your application is still being considered. We will be in touch whether you are successful or not.

    If you are successful, we will try to give you a call at least 2 weeks before the placement commences. If you are unsuccessful in your application this time around we will notify you by email.

  8. My application status has gone from In Review and now back to Application Submitted, what does this mean?

    Don’t worry, this is just part of the shortlisting process. We will be in touch either way.

  9. Can I apply if I’m under 18?

    Yes. The minimum age for work experience at the BBC is 14 and there is no upper age limit. 

    The majority of BBC work experience placements on offer are for individuals who are 18 years and over. However there are a number of placements that are available to younger candidates (14-17 year olds).

    We will indicate the age requirements for each placement before you apply. You will also be asked your age when you complete the application questionnaire.

  10. Can I apply for work experience if I am not based in the UK?

    Work experience placements are only available in the UK. We only accept applications from people who have already obtained the right to work in the UK.

  11. What should I wear for my work experience placement?

    Dress is smart informal, but it’s possible you’ll be walking between buildings or out on location so sensible footwear would be a good idea. If there are any specific requirements we will let you know in advance.

  12. What is the duration of a work experience placement?

    BBC work experience placements last a minimum of 3 days to a maximum of 20 days. The length of placement differs, so please check the details of the placement you’re applying for to see what’s on offer.

  13. What are the hours of a work experience placement?

    The majority of all placements will follow normal business hours (09:30-17:30 Monday-Friday) however certain placements may require work outside of these hours. The Recruitment Team will discuss this with you in advance and will confirm specific details via email.

  14. How soon can I apply for another work experience placement with the BBC?

    You can only complete one work experience placement per year. After your placement you can apply again a year after the last day of your work experience placement.

  15. If I am unsuccessful, can I apply again next time?

    Yes, but you might want to revise your application to make you stand out more.

    Unfortunately, due to the number of applications we receive, we cannot offer feedback for unsuccessful candidates.
