A new
joint initiative between the county council, District Councils and
the Met Office means that Cambridgeshire can breathe more easily.
Cambridgeshire
is the first county in the region to use the Met Office's local
air quality forecast service which launched on June 12th 2002 during
Green Transport Week.
The
new service will help reduce air pollution and improve health by
providing a daily air quality forecasting service for the public's
use.

forecast here >>
The
public were invited to the launch at Shire Hall where they learned
more about the project and also had their car emissions tested for
free!
The
daily air quality forecasts predict pollution levels by using local
weather forecast information and pollution data.
The
service measures pollution levels against a range of points from
one to ten. If pollution levels are moderate (above three) or high
(above seven), sensitive individuals such as some asthma sufferers,
may feel discomfort.
Forecasts
will also indicate UV levels enabling action to avoid sunburn.
