  facts

The piece of the universe we can see is 14 billion light years across because the universe is 14 billion years old. The universe is finite in age but might have an infinite extend. The patch we can see depends on how old the universe is because it takes time for light from a distant object to come to us.

Peter's interest in the planets, galaxies and stars has led him to become affilliated with the Institute of Astronomy at Cambridge University. He gets a really good view of the night sky through the telescopes available at the Institute.

Peter loves talking about space and finds there is no better audience than awe-struck children. He regularly gives presentations to schools and leaves his audience in complete amazement about the wonders of the galaxy. He soon has them scared silly with stories of comets headed towards Earth, Black Holes and many more astronomical mind-blowers!

Peter is an Associate at the new National Space Centre in Leicester, he is Vice chairman of the Cambridge Astronomical Association and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society! For fifteen years Peter, with others, has run a Saturday morning group in the city for young astronomers – his "Astro-babes!"- and tests Brownies and Scouts for their Astro badges.

Most important of all, Peter is an enthusiast and inspirational communicator. He regularly presents items about astronomy on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and has presented a series of astronomy items for TV.

Make sure you take a look at Peter's monthly guide to the night sky. It not only tells you what to look out for, but is full of amazing facts about space. Let's look at the stars »
