The heady bass beat of the rave tent could be heard for miles around as the crowds came by car, by train, by bike and on foot to Cambridge's fabulous one-day festival - Strawberry Fair.

The parade
Strawberry Fair parade

The day kicked off in style with the traditional parade through the centre of town. At midday, shoppers were treated to a mini Mardi Gras as the marching band drummed, the belly dancers shook their midriffs for all they were worth and some magnificent costumes wended their way through the city streets.

Something for everyone!
Even the dog's having fun!

And, what a glorious day it was for this year's Strawberry Fair. The beer tents bulged and the food stalls were full as revellers took advantage of the huge array of food and drink on offer. Let's face it - you will never go hungry or thirsty at Strawberry Fair!

Thousands of fair-goers spread out across the common - at times you could hardly move.

Canny revellers headed for the hammocks and the chill-out areas, whilst others found seats in the Foolhardy Circus big top and the Freakshow Theatre tent.

And what about this year's music line-up? Well, once again there was pretty much something for everyone, ranging from the funky groves of the dance stage to thrash metal on the East stage. The dance stage offered a fantastic range from dub to house to tech to breaks to D&B to hip-hop then on to retro, funk, soul and Motown. Phew!

DJ Largo, on stage at 1pm certainly got the crowd moving, and Mr B and Andy Barlow on at 5pm gave Strawberry Fair its taste of Funk.

London Swingphonia entertain the crowds from the Lost Vagueness tent

London Swingphonia, featuring Harry Martin, put on a great performance and went down a storm, to put it mildly! The band of 16, which included singer, conductor, saxophone, trombone, trumpet and double bass, rolled off Big Band swing tunes, the likes of which Frank Sinatra would be proud.

Once again, Strawberry Fair proved that it's got something for everyone - and just about everyone wanted to be a part of it.
