The haunted studio...
What will you see?
Who's roaming the studios at BBC Cambridgeshire?
Imagine the scene - a deserted radio station, dimly-lit corridors, a chill wind blowing past you and the sound of tormented voices on the staircase....
It's very scary, and we've got the webcam to prove it!

It's no joke - for many of Radio Cambridgeshire's presenters, an early morning start or a late finish can turn into a nightmare as they do their best to avoid the ghostly presence which roams the corridors in the half-light.

We asked our presenters to tell us their experiences - some were only too willing - they'll do anything for a bit of publicity. But others shied away from recounting their chilling experiences in the
HAUNTED STUDIO...

So, what is the ghostly presence?
Well, some say it's a poltergeist who finds the BBC Radio Cambridgeshire playlist distasteful. Others have reported inexplicable flurries of wind in the corridors, others say they hear a disembodied voice calling out to them....

Don't read this alone!

Jacqueline Sheriff, Broadcast Assistant
"One Friday, after I'd done scripts and autocue, I came down the stairs from the studio to reception and half way down, I thought I heard a gravelly voice say 'Hello'. I looked around to see who it was and couldn't see anyone around. I've noticed that these things always seem to happen on a Friday...."

Ray Clark - Afternoon Show Presenter
"I was presenting the overnight show and was the only person in the building. It was 4.10am, a record had just finished playing, I was talking and 'being a disc jockey' when I suddenly looked up and saw ' an apparition' in the corner of the studio. There were no details or features to see, but it was the shape and size of an old lady. So ..... I was talking about this as the breakfast team were coming into work ... and what I'd seen was an exact description of what had been seen before .... and I'd never heard about previous 'visits'. Spooky or what?????????????"
Catherine Rice - Director
"I once recorded a radio play - a humourous look at God for the Huntingdon Writer's group - in the editing suite. I had loaded countless sound effects & music into our recording system to play out at the appropriate moments. There was one point where a sound effect was supposed to kick in, but the autoplay played "Misererei Mei" by Allegri every time I pulled the switch. It wouldn't play anything else, even if I selected it. The weird thing is, after this point in the recording, everything else on the tape was wiped off when I played it back later. I had to get all the actors to come back in so we could do the second half of the play again..."
Nick Young - Film Editor
"The ghost SPOKE to me the other day, in the car park behind the studios.... I was walking along the corridor towards the back car park, fumbling for my door fob, searching in my pockets, when a voice behind says something like "Hang on, wait for me." Then I felt someone behind me, and I could tell they were laden down with books or tapes or something. I was facing the door - I hadn't turned around - I was still going on about how I couldn't find the key and still fumbling about. When I turned round to see who I was talking to, there was no one there... Spooky, or what??"
Sue Marchant - Nightime Presenter
A brave woman, our Sue...
"I was a little late one morning for the Dawnbreaker show. I was getting a little hyperactive as I went into Studio IA to change the trail sheets and had to do a double-take. There sitting in the chair was a figure of a man. A friendly gent sitting very calmly, dressed in beige with grey hair - he was so calm he just gave me the message "hey calm down". Maybe he was the one who helped the morning I managed to lock myself out - luckily for the first time ever the early morning newsreader was here before 5am - I say cheers......"
