Work has already begun on the eagerly awaited Cambridge Leisure Development at the old Cattle Market site in Cambridge.

Work has already begun at the Cattle Market site

The new leisure complex will be a dream-come-true for anyone who enjoys the complete leisure experience - with a cinema, bowling alley and a health and fitness suite, together with several restaurants - all set around a large central plaza. There will also be a hotel, a multi-storey car park, retail units, bicycle parking and of course, the new and improved arts and entertainment venue - The Junction.

In addition to the retail and leisure tenants already confirmed, including names such as Cineworld, Travelodge, Pizza Hut, Megabowl and LA Fitness, there will also be 17 private and 14 affordable residents units included beneath the main structure, and public areas will be landscaped.

Facilities at the leisure complex:
• 9 screen cinema
• 28 lane bowling alley
• 120 bed hotel
• Health & fitness club
• 10 restaurants/bars
• 3 retails units
• Multistorey car park
• Bicycle parking

Chris Goldsmith, Director at Turnstone who is heading up the project explains, "The Cattle Market was a major yet underused site in the centre of town and previous attempts to develop it had failed. The development attracted an awful lot of attention from prospective tenants very early on and in a very difficult market, the commercial interest in Cambridge Leisure is certainly bucking the trend."

The development will be next to entertainment venue 'The Junction'

The developers undertook a full public consultation service at the very beginning, and negotiations have been going on since 1996. Councillor David Howarth, Leader of Cambridge City Council said: "This is an excellent scheme, which will bring much needed new leisure facilities to Cambridge. I particularly welcome the bowling alley, something we have long wished to see in the City..."

Standing alongside the new complex, arts and entertainment venue 'The Junction' is undergoing its own redevelopment. Find out more about the plans »
