It's all very well being able to turn your brother into a frog when nobody's watching, but can you do it live on the radio?

Listen to the magic spells

This was the challenge BBC Radio Cambridgeshire presenter Tony James set local witches and wizards in the Peterborough area, and dozens rose to it.

But only the very best, the very bravest and strongest were chosen to perform live on air in front of Professor Flitwick, the Master of Charms...

Joshua, Robert, Brett, Jake and Amy - all local schoolchildren - were chosen as our region's top apprentices and each cast their spells live on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire's Breakfast Show on Friday 20th June.

Lucky winner Amy!

Magic was in the air outside Waterstone's Bridge Street window - decorated in preparation for the next day's launch of the brand new Harry Potter book. Warwick Davies, who plays Professor Flitwick, the Master of Charms, was there to give the young witches and wizards some top tips.

Listen to the wizards and witches...
Listen as reporter Jane Smith discusses the new book with Warwick Davies and the children cast their magic spells live on air! Professor Flitwick will then choose a winner - but we think there's a big clue in our picture!

To make sure the whole event went with a bang (and a fizz), the AVCE Hospitality & Catering students at Peterborough Regional College designed the perfect potion to be drunk by a practising apprentice. It's a fantastically bubbly taste of wizardry, so why not whip up a batch yourself?

Peterborough's Potty Potter Potion

Potion ingredients

One slosh of blackcurrant juice
Three sloshes of orange juice
Three sloshes of bubbling lemonade
Sliced apples and oranges

A potion fit for a wizard!
To add colour, decorate the goblet. Gently dip the rim of the goblet in blackcurrant juice and then dip in to sugar, so that the rim of the glass is coated.

Making the magic...

In the wizards goblet, stir together some of the apples and oranges with the blackcurrant juice. Pour in the orange juice and stir, to mix the potion together. Slowly mix in the bubbling lemonade.

Complete the potion by adding a straw or 'wizard's wand'.

NOTE: 'One slosh' equals approximately 2 fl oz. So if you make up the batch above, you should have enough potion to keep two young apprentice wizards very happy!
