In the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, 12 November 2008 John Kingsnorth was awoken by the howl of sirens speeding down Cambridge's Mill Road. It was between 1 and 1.30am and shortly after John was out on the street with his digital video camera capturing what turned out to be one of Cambridge's biggest fires for many years. The warehouse which caught alight is the abandoned John Lewis storage unit near Brookfields Hospital which was due to be demolished. It's now owned by the Cambridge Muslim Academic Trust who had planned to develop the area into shops, flats, a community centre and a mosque. John's footage shows how much the people of Cambridgeshire are our ears and eyes for the county - if you ever capture a big story like John has then let us know via the email below.
