Town and Country Show

After a brilliant inaugural year, the Cambridge Town and Country Show returns to Parker's Piece this weekend - and it's not just farming and tractors. There's loads to do - ranging from the sublime to the downright silly!

Spanning the whole weekend, the Cambridge Town and Country Show packs out the centre of town with an activity list a country mile long, with most of it being absolutely free! Last year the show pulled in 30,000 people... 30,000 can't be wrong, can they?

There's One Man and His Dog-esque action with a sheepdog display, a sheep show (which last year seemed to turn into some sort of bizarre beauty pageant!). Or what about a duck-herding demonstration? Alternatively, turn your eyes to the skies for a great display by birds of prey - that always proves to be a crowd pleaser.

On top of that there's the intense, hilarious and slightly squeamish antics of Kondini, who is billed as the "Human Toolbox". Basically this guy will do things with a Black & Decker that aren't covered by the three year warranty!

There will be demonstrations of rural skills as well as a medieval story teller and a multi-tented historical re-enactment village. Plus the city centre will become one big mushy farm with pig and cattle demonstrations from the Countryside Restoration Trust and Burwash Manor Farm.

Inflatables

Of course there will be a barn-load of stalls, including arts and crafts as well as food and lifestyle marquees. But if that isn't enough, then there's a funfair (not free), donkey rides, Suffolk Punch horses, steam engines, magic shows and Punch and Judy.

It really is a day when the cream of the country crop comes to the city.
