Soham Pumpkin Fair is an annual event, open to everyone - whether you're a gardener, or you just want a fun day out. Held every September in the autumnal setting of the town's recreation ground, the fair awards prizes in a variety of classes for pumpkins, sunflowers and outsize vegetables, including special sections for junior gardeners. Started in 1975, The Soham Pumpkin Fair has so far raised over £32,000 for local charities, schools and organisations.
It has become a local tradition to issue every child in the town with a pumpkin and sunflower seed to grow especially for the Pumpkin Fair - some succeed in amazing fashion! The Fair has seen a number of record breakers over the years - the largest pumpkin recorded was a massive 324lbs and the tallest sunflower fifteen-and-a-half feet tall! As well as growing competitions for Soham residents there are also categories for those in East Anglia and UK growers. This year's competitions include pumpkins, sunflowers, baking, a children's runner bean section and a 'dress up your pumpkin' fancy dress competition! Pumpkins can be cut, decorated and accessorised - let your imagination and your pumpkin go wild!
