Pumpkins at Soham Fair
Yes, they come in all sorts of colours!

Soham Pumpkin Fair 2006

In a bid to find the paunchiest pumpkin and the most stellar sunflower, Soham welcomes one and all to its 32nd annual Pumpkin Fair on Saturday 30th September...

Soham Pumpkin Fair

  • Saturday 30th September, 2006
  • Soham recreation ground, Fountain Lane
  • Parking at the Fountain Lane car park
  • Car boot and stalls, refreshments etc

Soham Pumpkin Fair is an annual event, open to everyone - whether you're a gardener, or you just want a fun day out.   Held every September in the autumnal setting of the town's recreation ground, the fair awards prizes in a variety of classes for pumpkins, sunflowers and outsize vegetables, including special sections for junior gardeners.

Started in 1975, The Soham Pumpkin Fair has so far raised over £32,000 for local charities, schools and organisations.

A sunflower

It has become a local tradition to issue every child in the town with a pumpkin and sunflower seed to grow especially for the Pumpkin Fair - some succeed in amazing fashion!   The Fair has seen a number of record breakers over the years - the largest pumpkin recorded was a massive 324lbs and the tallest sunflower fifteen-and-a-half feet tall!

As well as growing competitions for Soham residents there are also categories for those in East Anglia and UK growers.

This year's competitions include pumpkins, sunflowers, baking, a children's runner bean section and a 'dress up your pumpkin' fancy dress competition! Pumpkins can be cut, decorated and accessorised - let your imagination and your pumpkin go wild!

Jayne Russell
I have recently found myself increasingly fond of pumpkins, not only the flavour but I have an alottment that I am passionate about and will be planting my first batch of pumpkins in June, I know that they grow like tiffids and they love to roam so I am in the process of building pergolas for them to climb over. I know this all sounds a bit obsessive but I wish it was June so I could plant them out now...
