It's like a Mecca for the millions - well, quite a few thousand at any rate.  Come one, come all - Strawberry Fair is a fabulous family day out.  It's just about the trendiest place to be seen if you're a teen, and for the rest of us, it's a chance to chill or strut - the choice is yours.  And choice is what this festival's all about - and that's what has made it such an overwhelming success for so many years.

Rain or shine, Strawberry Fair never fails to pack the crowds in to Midsummer Common - not to mention the hundreds who travel to the city from all over the UK adding to the day's eclectic - and eccentric - atmosphere.

The day kicks off at around 10am, followed with the traditional Strawberry Fair parade through the city centre. This year's parade will again be led by the massed Samba bands of the eastern region and the theme is 'Bugs', so expect to see giant ladybirds, bumblebees and butterflies! The Fair's organisers are busy holding costume workshops throughout May, so check the official website if you want to get involved in the parade.

Back at Midsummer Common, the entertainment warms up shortly after midday and as always there will be a veritable feast of world food and drink on offer plus stalls offering everything from clothes to henna tattoos to a revitalising massage.  Entertainment is paramount and this year you can expect plenty for the whole family including a circus tent, a kids' tent and a variety of theatrical performers lurking around every corner!

You'll be able to hear the 'boom, boom' of the bass long before you catch sight of the fair as musical diversity really is the name of the game at Strawberry Fair.

The biggest stage of all is the East Stage where you can see all manner of bands including Modal Monks, Warmed up Cold and local funk act The Beards.

You can also take your pick from the Green Area, the Theatrikals Tent, and the Acoustic Stage where local bands The Broken Family Band and The Shivers will be performing.

And don't miss the Future Stage where you can expect a wide mix of musical genres, from bands, performers and solo artists who are all under 18! These dedicated kids will be a part of the main Cambridge music scene in a big way in years to come!

And don't forget that there's no entry fee for Strawberry Fair and all of the entertainment and the music is FREE!  Just bring enough change to keep your tummy happy and indulge your love of retail therapy - and the only other thing you'll need is your enthusiasm and possibly a strong bladder.  Yes, of course there are plenty of facilities, but there's also plenty of beer and one thing does tend to lead to another, does it not?

For a full line-up of acts at this year's Fair, pick up a programme on the day from the information stand in the centre of the fair itself - and while you're there, get your hands on a souvenir T-shirt, or even some Strawberry Fair undies!  We kid you not!!

In the meantime, feast your eyes on our gallery from last year's Strawberry Fair - a taste of what you can expect this June!

People who don't like Strawberry Fair just don't like other people, it seems. Especially if those other people seem to be enjoying themselves. Strawberry Fair is a fantastic Cambridge institution that brings together all kinds of people who might not normally mix to enjoy a bit of good, honest entertainment together. In any gathering of that size there's going to be a few 'bad apples' - that's people for you. But just open your eyes, walk into the fair, and look at the grins on the kids faces. Then you wil understand why it really is such a good thing that the good Cambridgeshire folk who do this for nothing every year are doing.

I love it; the organisers and other volunteers do so well to keep it going, and when the sun shines it is an amazing fair,so much to see, a circus tent, lots of childrens shows, a reggae tent and loads of other live music, and more stalls than you can shake a stick at. long may it continue It is for the young at heart and can get a bit messy in the evening, but is a great day in the Cambridge year,

Peter
I run a stall at the Strawberry Fair and it's great! People come from all over East Anglia to see the stalls and listen to the music. There are many people families with young children and everybody seems to have a good time. The only down side is in the evening when the families have gone home there are usually quite a few young lads who have had too much to drink and can be quite obnoxious. But saying that you can meet the same lads out in Cambridge City Centre any Friday or Saturday Night. But it's alcohol that is the problem, not any illegal drugs. Sure you can smell a few joints from time to time but it's not some rampant orgy of drugs taking as some would have you believe.

I left cambridge 3 years ago but every first Saturday of june my mind travels to midsummer common, with all the friends and all happy faces i used to see, dance, drink and have fun every year for 6 years in a row. Lots of memories, lots of feelings, lots of changes... friends that dont see anymore... Every first of June i know that it's a special day for the city(and not only). Many people give their best for months to prepare and offer to everyone such a great entertainment day out,for free. we are never gonna change/ we are never gonna die you stupid undertaker!!! hugs and a big hello to everyone from cambridge down mill rd!

mel

Strawberry Fair is the only good thing that happens in Cambridge especialy this year due to the gorgouse weather we had. I think it brigs together alot of people and gives students who are currently studigng for exams a welcome break and i honestly LOVE IT

hollie
hi ya i really like strawberry fair iwent ther 4 times befor and this year

David Hetherington
Over the years the Strawberry Fair has turned from a family day out to either a drug or weapons fest. I wonder how many were arrested this year?

J.
Strawberry Fair is the best day out ever, I havnt had that much fun in ages. I damn well hope it doesnt stop. The music stages let local bands become known and its a great time out...awesome stuff!

Jonny Whitelaw
Ive posted once already but quite frankly i was out raged when i read "A Resident's" view on the strawberry fair. How can it not be a family festival when there are thousands of familys that turned up and throughly enjoyed themselfs. I spent a good portion of the morning teach diablo (circus toy) to one families children and i can hardley see how that isnt fun for the family. I have never met a nicer bunch of people then i have at the strawberry fair and it would be a shame for it to be ended because of peoples shadowed views of the event.

JR
I'd like to disagree with the above view of nothing but drug pushing and such, the festival as it it, although likely having many people under the influence of various drugs, some legal, some less so, had many stalls and areas interesting or downright enjoyable for families and nearby residents alike. Admitted, if they don't enjoy music of a variety of types, drink, tasty food, a great social vibe or hammocks... they may be out of luck. Other than that, I was stone-cold-sober the entire day, and had a great time. It is a fun tradition. But I only saw a few strawberries.

Awesome day to be had by all, cant say i fault it in any way and this year we had some good weather, a little bit too good after a while out in the sun but good. Great Day

a 2nd resident
I absolutely agree with the other resident. This whole thing is a dirty, disgusting mess. Our house regularly serves as a pissoir during this 'family' fest. It's unbelievable that it's happening right next to where people live. As a courtesy it should at least finish earlier?!

Al
A resident.....don't be such a miserable old sod.

Les Chapell
Smoke it if you got it!!!

DES
All these complaints are making me intrigued. Prehaps this shall be the year I shall see it for myself.

Sarah
Strawberry Fair is one of my favourite festivals, and the fact that it's free just makes it even better. I can't wait for this year's Fair, they get better and better every year. Hats off the organisers for providing such fantastic entertainment year after year!

i beg to differ unfortunately 'resident', i too, live within close proximity of the festival, and i happen to think it's a marvellous day out for children, teenagers and even us fogeys alike to interact and 'skank' to the wonderful music that is showcased all day. stop being a party pooper and enjoy yourself. yoursa faithfully Martin Steele

mac
i goto strawberry fair every year i dont take drugs and i dont drink i think if ya dont like it then move its one of the best days out in cambridge keep strawberry fair alive

Dominic
There's only one place to be on the first Saturday in June. I have been going for the past 5 years and think the Fair is a marvellous celebration of Cambridges progressive and multi-cutural society. A great day out for kids and adults.

Paul
I miss it. I left cambridge for the United States in 2000 but I always check up on how the day went. My wife must have had fun too because she said 'yes' when I proposed to her the day after our last Fair.

A resident
The Strawberry fair is nota family festival it is a large, unpleasant drugs party where for a day, because of the sheer numbers, the drug users and pushers can operate with impunity. It causes untold misery for the residents who live near.It has nothing to do with the Strawberry origins and the sooner it is stopped the better
