Andie Harper

Andie uses all those years of experience as a teacher to sort out all those badly behaved organisations in the county and help you with your consumer problems. Listen every weekday from 9am to 12.30pm.

Q: Andie, give us a potted history of your life so far...

A: I was born in Magor, Gwent in 1947 but soon moved to Santon Downham in Suffolk before finding my true home in Norfolk in 1956. After leaving school in 1966 I worked for a year before going to teacher training college in Manchester.

I taught at Fetwell Primary School in Norfolk for 18 years before moving to Great Abington in Cambridgeshire where I taught until taking early retirement in 1997.

In April 1998 I became the sports producer here at Radio Cambridgeshire until taking over as Drivetime presenter in 2002. In 2004 I landed this job as Mid-morning presenter - the one I always wanted!

I am divorced but luckily have two 'children', Adam born in 1970 and Ceri who came along in 1973. They both live and work in London. I have lived in Reed, Herts with my partner Christine since 'the day of the gales' October 16th 1987. We all support Liverpool FC, it's compulsory!

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: When I was very young I wanted to be a train driver but in my teens I wanted to be a radio DJ. It was a long wait!

Q: What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?

A: Reporting on my first football match for this station from a room at the back of the clubhouse, I proudly announced the cup game had finished as a draw only to find they were playing extra time when I re-emerged. The next phone call still haunts me but luckily I am still here!

Q: What's the worst job you've ever had?

A: Junior librarian at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. I hated it.

Q: Do you have a catchphrase?

A: "Has the world gone mad?"

Q: What was the first record you ever bought?

A: 'Walk on by' by Leroy Van Dyke.

Q: What's your favourite food?

A: Indian, but I'll eat anything apart from most sea food.

Q: When Hollywood comes calling, who'll play you?

A: Clint Eastwood... hopefully I will also be chosen to play him when the time comes!

Q: In a fire, what would you rescue first?

A: The cat and family photographs.

Q: What do you do to relax?

A: A long, hot bath or watching the ducks at play on my pond!

You can listen to Andie, along with Mark and Carol from the mid-morning team, every weekday from 9am to 12.30pm. If you want to get in touch with Andie, or need any help sorting out your consumer problems, send him an e-mail.
