Makers of the film adaptation of Philip Pullman's 'Dark Materials' trilogy are holding open auditions in Cambridge to find an actress to play the lead role of Lyra Belacqua. New Line Cinema are looking for girls aged 9-13 to play Lyra in 'The Golden Compass', the first book in the trilogy - also known as 'Northern Lights' in the UK.
The open casting call at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge is the first of four auditions around the UK. Casting directors will be looking for someone who embodies Lyra's loyalty, bravery and mischievous nature. Based on the bestselling Pullman novels, the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy is comprised of 'The Golden Compass', 'The Subtle Knife', and 'The Amber Spyglass'. It revolves around a young girl who travels to the far north to save her best friend. Along the way, she encounters shape-shifting creatures, witches, and a variety of otherworldly characters in parallel universes.
