Rob Morris of Chatteris, who also works as a policeman, has just opened a photographic exhibition at the MichaelHouse Centre in Cambridge. Having travelled extensively to some of the more disadvantaged countries of the world, Rob Morris, a freelance photographer travelled to Sri Lanka to document some of its people and the work of volunteers in the weeks after the tsunami.

Sri Lanka was, and still is a beautiful country with the most welcoming of people. Having seen so much misery in other parts of the world it was the joy and optimism of the people that reinforced his wish to show this part of Sri Lanka to those people in the UK and Europe who have given so generously to the Tsunami Aid Appeal. Boxing Day 2004 will be imprinted on the memories of people throughout the world. 'Portraits of Hope' is Rob's view and belief in the indomitable spirit of people and in particular the young and very old. Generosity of spirit sent the aid and generosity of spirit is what the Sri Lankan people exude every day. Artist Rob Morris feels that in his small way he is able to portray this in the exhibition.

Speaking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Rob said "After a long flight and then driving down South the devastation even a month later was horrendous, but what really struck me from day one was the optimistic and positive attitude of the people. They were smiling and trying just to get on with their life." |
