Hi! I'm Julie Buckfield and I'm playing Dick Whittington in this year's pantomime at Cambridge Arts Theatre. This is my second time at the Arts, as I played Jack in last year's Jack and the Beanstalk. I love working at the Arts, partly because there's such a lovely atmosphere in the theatre, but also because my parents live in Cambridge and so it means that I can take my washing home for my mum to do and get a square meal at the same time! Anyway, today is the first day of rehearsals. (That means we get to see old friends, meet new ones, and also eat loads of doughnuts to keep our energy levels up.) We met at 10 o'clock this morning in the church hall which will be our home for the next three weeks and, after we had all said hello and caught up on everyone's news, we sat down to do our first read-through. This took loads longer than it should have done because everybody kept laughing at Mike's corny jokes. (Michael Fenton Stevens is also back at the Arts playing the Dame – this year he is Sarah the Cook.)

This afternoon we are starting to practise some dance routines with Scott, the choreographer. I think it will take some time to get this right and until we stop bumping into one another..... thank goodness we get three weeks' rehearsal instead of the usual one for most pantos – I guess that's what makes the Arts panto so special! Anyway, must go now to get my dance shoes on – see you later this week to let you know how we're getting on!
