Going through hell? Could be your house...

Susie Shaw interviewed by Catherine Carr
Susie Shaw is a House Doctor or Geomancer who says that there may be more profound reasons for your TV breaking, your business going bust, or a bad patch in your relationship...

More

Geomancers are spiritual ecologists.

Geomancy is considered to play a strong part in the location of leys (a ley line seems to be a straight line that carries an altered form of the earth's magnetic field).

It has been claimed that birds, fish and animals use them (ley lines) as 'compasses', helping them find direction back to breeding grounds and to warmer climates during winter months. They have also been said to be vast prehistoric trade routes [from bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire].

Q:  [Susie lives in London and came to Cambridge to work on a house in a Huntingdonshire village]. Can you explain what a House Doctor is?

A:  Well, I look at the energetics of a house as opposed to the interior, so, I'm looking at re-designing your house, but more on the energetics….

Q:  What do you mean by 'energetics'?

A:  Well, usually I get calls from people when things are going wrong in their lives and what a Geomancer does is try to make you basically in harmony with the environment so that it can support you on your journey.

Q:  So, why would your environment not be in harmony?

A:  Something called geopathic stress, which is 'harmful earth energies' [caused by] all the electricity we use and all of the building work that we do. Sometimes, that can cause you geopathic stress which, in turn, can (to people who are quite sensitive) actually make us quite ill sometimes.

Q:  So, if I called you, and all things were going wrong and you thought that I had some geopathic stress in my house, what would you do to sort it out?

A:  Well, first of all I'd ask you a series of questions, like, for example, had you done lots of building work and what your symptoms were - so, if you weren't sleeping well at night, if plants weren't growing in the garden and, it sounds odd, but I tend to find quite a few cats will spray the house - that can be a sign, mushrooms growing... [there are] lots of different signs. So, then what I would do (obviously I dowse with rods) is check to see if there is any geopathic stress and then I would actually sort it out.

Q:  How?

A:  Well, I do Earth Acupuncture - like you have acupuncture in the body; you put needles in as such and then release the blocked energy - well, I actually do that in the earth…

Q:  With needles?

A:  Well, not actually with needles as such, but you can use special pieces of wood or copper rods.

Q:  What do people say when you describe what your job is?

A:  Most people are quite open-minded. Very often you'll get someone who is sceptical within a couple but I think that that's quite healthy because I think that it's good for people to question. But I have to say, most of the times that I do get contacted is when people contact me as a last resort - so if they say that their child is having nightmares or they have had a run of bad luck, or things have happened since they've moved into the house - I ask them whether, when they're away from the house they feel better or different. Sometimes that could be because you're on holiday, so you probably would sleep better, but if it's a pattern (when you're away from the house you feel better) then that's another thing.

Q:  How did you get into this?

A:  Well, I used to work in the city and then got interested in Feng Shui and my path has just taken me this way...
