Past production - Little Shop of Horrors
Little Shop of Horrors

Little Shop of Horrors

Shy boy meets shy girl. Sadistic dentist carves up punter's choppers. Plant eats everyone. The End...

Little Shop of Horrors

The performances dates are Wednesday to Saturday 25th - 28th May at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday. Ticket prices £8 full price and £6 concessions and can be bought from the theatre box office on 01223 352932.

Musicals have a habit of being quite sweet and evoking the 'aaah' factor.  That and the Sarah Brightman feature where a bird with big hair and voice to match give's it some serious welly on stage.  Not this musical.

Feed me...

Little Shop of Horrors is just that.  Blood features quite a lot.  There's a driller killer dentist who digs right to the pain.  There's a nerd.  There's a simpering heroine who simpers lots.  And there's a whopping great plant that eats people.  Sweet?  Not really.

Get ready for some massive plant action

Fun? Yes, if you like that kind of blood-letting, screaming, sucking up of victims kind of thing.  It is great fun, if a little odd.  There's a Dr Zeus moralizing thing going on whereby it skips along happily with a 'greed is bad, love is good' message going on underneath (which, if you don't adhere to, you'll get eaten by a big ole Triffid type of thing - which is probably a metaphor for dying a horrible death or something like that).

So, a night of learning and fun is hoped for...here's a little burst of song for you to singalonga to...

I've given you sunshine
I've given you dirt.
You've given me nothing
But heartache and hurt.
I'm beggin' you sweetly.
I'm down on my knees.
Oh, please-grow for me!

That's sung by Seymore...he's the nerd.

If you fancy seeing it in action there's a production coming to town with the Mumford Theatre at APU and the cast and artistic team are from APU, Cambridge Regional College and Bodywork Performing Arts. The performances are at the Mumford Theatre, APU, East Road, Cambridge.  The performances dates are Wednesday to Saturday 25th - 28th May at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm matinee on the Saturday. Ticket prices £8 full price and £6 concessions and can be bought from the theatre box office on 01223 352932 (nb. if you hear the words 'feed me' in your shell-like...run like stink!)
