Great changes in the life of a Burmese student

Indiana
America is a dream-land for many students
Thiri has had a remarkable experience in her student life since she finished high school in Rangoon.

Her father, who was working in South Korea at that time, persuaded her to come and study in Korea and she agreed amid some concerns over language and culture barriers.

It took a year for Thiri to learn the Korean language at a college before she can join a university to continue her studies in computer science.

A new turn in her life came as a surprise at the end of 2003 when her father decided to settle in USA after winning a green card lottery.

Everything has to start all over again in America for Thiri, not least the basic education skills in English and mathematics.

This time Thiri has chosen to become a doctor and she is already in her pre-med course at the Indiana-Purdue University.

Thiri shares her long and intriguing life story in the Education Gateway as her story continues - this time with a brighter future.
