Cut It Loose

With the new money of the 80s came a new look suit. With the emergence of the looser, casual style of tailoring, pioneered in Italy and dubbed “the Armani ease” for it’s relaxed appearance belying complex cutting and tailoring , Europe took over from Savile Row in the high fashion stakes. The new style of suits were perceived as more modern, less formal, with softer lines and men didn’t feel restricted. This coincided with a workplace trend for dressing down so the more casual suit fitted in perfectly to the new atmosphere. Men could now put their shirt, tie and cuff-links to one side and be just as stylish wearing a polo shirt.
