The
south-facing coast of Portugals Algarve region has long been
a favourite for the discerning sun lover. The relatively short flight
times from UK airports make it an ideal destination for a shorter
break or even a long weekend.

Sea temperatures
are relatively high as the region lies further south than the Balearics,
Sardinia and even some of the Greek Islands.
These, in turn, ensure that the winter months are quite mild. Even
in the middle of winter maximum temperatures usually reach 15 Celsius
(59F).
Between late
April and early October the visitor can expect a good deal of fine,
sunny weather with pleasantly warm temperatures. Although July temperatures
in excess of 40 Celsius (103F) have been recorded, it is more usual
for temperatures at the height of summer to reach around 28 Celsius
(82F). This is very warm but sea breezes make it feel just pleasantly
warm.
From late October
the weather can become very changeable as the settled weather patterns
of summer begin to break down.
Rainfall in the Algarve is very low from May through September but
thereafter the frequency of wet days increases considerably. Nevertheless,
throughout autumn and winter you can expect no more than one wet
day in three.
