This
week "A Sense of Place" takes a journey along the coast of North
Somerset from Clevedon Pier to the promenade at Weston.

Along the way, Rob Wicks meets local characters and visits places
of interest.
We begin on the recently restored, elegant, Victorian Pier in
Clevedon and from there go on a lifeboat training exercise.
The journey takes in the hill where poets walk and the sea wall
upon which farms depend.
We meet an array of interesting people:

Shantymen,
who uphold the sailors' tradition of singing about the sea.
The monks at Woodspring Priory.
Birdspotters and holiday campers in Sand Bay.
And of course the fishermen, who have the sea to themselves.
It's
a journey taking in ancient and modern - from the volcanic activity
of Worlebury Hill to the games arcades of Weston Pier.
When Rob made the programme he wanted those who heard it to
take away an idea of what there is to see between Clevedon and
Weston.
"I hope it will raise a smile at amusing observations and introduce
people to the ordinary but extraordinary people we meet along
the way," he said.
"I want people to be left with a feeling of having been on a
blustery walk across bracing beaches and hilltops." |
