BBC Bristol Online News: Audio/video coverage

Rail boss joins critics in carriage
First Great Western train
The Managing Director of First Great Western took up a challenge from BBC Points West this morning to experience travel on his trains with regular passengers.

First Great Western's Managing Director joined commuters

Mike Carroll joined commuters from Bristol to Swindon to hear from them about the chaos they have faced.

Last week, a newly-formed pressure group travelled to London to meet the bosses and complain about their services.

They claim that on a pounds-per-mile basis it is the most expensive route in Europe and slower than in pre-War days.

As a result, the Managing Director promised that the line from the West to London would improve.

BBC Points West presenter, Susan Osman, challenged him live on air, to journey with the commuters himself.
Rail passengers
Frustrated passengers at Bristol Temple Meads station.

"I join passengers on a daily basis," answered Mr Carroll.

"I have travelled with B-class members from London to Chippenham. I'd be happy to turn up early one morning and travel with them again."

He also agreed to allow BBC cameras to join him this morning.

By experiencing the frustrations of passengers at first hand, it is hoped Mr Carroll will speed up his promise to bring in a faster, cheaper and more reliable service for West commuters.
