Get to know your birdsong
Skylark   May is the month for birdsong and to make the most of this, the BBC Bristol website, Radio Bristol and RSPB are running some special birdsong activities and events.

From 17 to 24 May you'll have the chance to vote for your favourite song - all in aid of the Babe appeal for Children's Hospice South West.

Birdsong for beginners events

On Thursday 13 May you can go along to Stockwood Open Space Local Nature Reserve in south east Bristol for a `Birdsong for Beginners' event.
Stockwood is an excellent site to become familiar with a wide range of different bird songs and calls, as well as being a nice place for a morning stroll.

The event starts at 10am and finishes at 12noon. Booking is essential and places are limited to 20.

If you would like to attend please contact the RSPB regional office on 01392 432691 for booking and full details. There is a charge of £2.50 per person.

On Wednesday 19 May join the RSPB at Leigh Woods for a second `Birdsong for Beginners' event.

Managed by the National Trust, this nationally-important woods lies within a stone's throw of the city centre and is an ideal place to learn more abut the various songs and calls of woodland birds.

The event starts at 10am and finishes at 12noon.

Booking is essential and places are limited to 20. If you would like to attend please contact the RSPB regional office on 01392 432691 for booking and full details. There is a charge of £2.50 per person.
