This
summer, the BBC asked teenagers for their opinions about their
lives.
Here's a roundup of what Bristolians, aged 11 to 19 and from
all backgrounds, said when we asked them to reveal their feelings.

So...
on to the question "What's the best thing about
being a teenager today?"
You love your friends and being surrounded by "cool
new technology" like the internet.
Despite the fact that lack of freedom was highlighted as a negative
thing earlier in the survey, many young Bristolians, reckon
they have quite a few responsibilities and independence.
"Your
mum and dad don't care as much so that means you can basically
do what you want and stay out later than you used to,"
observed one 11-year-old girl.

"It's
like the first time u can have responsibility. You can go out
more, have a boyfriend, go to parties, go out shopping with
mates and just have fun," said this 14-year-old.
Others
say that not having responsibilities is the great thing
about being a teen: "Having fun and having no real responsibilities
- like paying bills," said one 19-year-old girl.
Boys highlight freedom too, and the fact that they can have
relationships and sex.
Other "pastimes" which the guys enjoy are music, films,
smoking and skateboarding ("BECAUSE IT RULES").
"U can get into lots of stuff and do stuff a 10-year-old
can't", said one 14-year-old boy, and one 16-year-old guy
summed up what he likes about being a teen as: "The friends,
the ladiez and the fun!" |
