Hengrove Play Park, the biggest
public park in the south of England, has opened its gates
to the community.
Bristol City Council, who paid
for and built the £1.4 million park, want the people of Bristol
to go along and enjoy the facilities.
A
sand and water play area for younger children to enjoy is
just one of the new attractions put in to the park.
The large wheels park for skateboarders, in-line skaters and
BMX riders will provide endless fun.
There is also distinct zones with the latest challenging activity
equipment and a large central grassed space for children to
play ball games or just run around in.
The centrepiece - a jungle
play experience suspended from a large 11m high dome-like
structure which was opened by the Lord Mayor, Bill Martin.
Deputy Council Leader Cllr
Helen Holland said: "Building strong local communities is
a priority for the council and a big part of our Capital of
Culture bid.
"Hengrove Park will soon
be the home to high-quality employment, leisure and sports
facilities, making it a valuable asset for South Bristol communities".
The play park has been built
on the site of the former Whitchurch airfield, alongside Hengrove
Leisure Park and Cineworld multiplex.
Access to the Leisure Park
is off Hengrove Way where there is car parking.
