Go wild in the woods on an owl prowl
Ian McGuire and Diane Vickers

If you enjoy bird spotting but you're busy in the daytime, you could set your sights on an evening birdwatch in September, 2003.
Ian McGuire is an expert on owls

Ian McGuire from the Hawk and Owl Trust is leading a free "owl prowl" through the Ridge Wood in Yate on 16 September.

The walk begins at 7.00pm and it is hoped the group will be able to see tawny and little owls en-route.

The owl prowl has been jointly arranged by the Friends of Ridge Wood Group and Southwold group of the Avon Wildlife Trust.

Anyone wishing to attend is advised to meet at the Clock Tower, High Street, Chipping Sodbury.

Owl talk

If you want to get some owl know-how ahead of the walk, Ian will be giving an illustrated talk at the Old Grammar School, High Street, Chipping Sodbury, on Wednesday 10 September at 7.30pm (there will be a small entrance charge).

Anyone interested in helping with the future management of the Ridge Wood and those interested in the wildlife and historical features of the site, are welcome to join the Friends of Ridge Wood community group.

It meets on a regular basis at South Gloucestershire Council's Bowling Hill Offices, Chipping Sodbury, and the next meeting is on Tuesday 23 September at 7.30pm.

For further information, contact Peter Capnos, Friends of Ridge Wood Community Group on 01454 317701 or Richard Aston, countryside planning officer for South Gloucestershire Council on 01454 863725.
