A balloon bonanza comes to Bristol in August

JULY 2004:

St Paul's Carnival | 3 July

After a triumphant return in 2003, the one-day carnival is firmly back on the city calendar. Music, stalls, food and much more.

Orange Ashton Court Festival | 17-18 July
Tickets £5 per day. Under 14s free. Parking £5 per day.

Two outdoor stages and stalls a plenty. Line up includes The Stranglers, Roni Size, Glenn Tillbrook and Goldie Lookin' Chain.

Bristol Children's Festival | 23-26 July
Day tickets: £7 children 5-12; adults, teens and three to four-year-olds £5; toddlers £2; concs. 11am-5pm daily

Event on the Downs dedicated to fun for kids. More than 20 performances a day in the marquee, workshops and other activities.

Portishead Flower Show | 30-31 July

Annual flower show and country fair held on the town's Flower Show Fields.

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta | 12-15 August
FREE, parking £5 per day

Dozens of balloons set to fill the skies am and pm plus nightglows and firework displays. Big pop gig on the Thursday afternoon.

1940s Weekend | 13 - 15 August
All daytime events FREE

A weekend of events and activities at Bristol's docks commemorating life in the city during the war - includes dance lessons, cooking demonstrations and displays of military road vehicles and landing craft. In and around Industrial Museum on dockside.

Queen Square Music | 20-22 & 27 August
FREE

After the success of 2003's Massive Attack all-dayer and a series of jazz events, more jazz and acoustic gigs are planned for August.

Bristol Rowing Regatta | 29 August
FREE

Racing on a 500m course between the ss Great Britain and Baltic Wharf from 10am TO 6pm.

Bristol Bike Show | 21 August
FREE

Extravaganza for fans of travel on two wheels: motorbikes, mopeds and cycles plus live music at St Nicholas Market.

Bristol Flower Show | 25-27 August

Huge floral marquee and tons of stalls on the Downs. Not all flower-related, there's crafts, talks and demos too.

Clevedon Flower Show | 28- 29 August

Flowers galore at this seaside show on the sea front.

SEPTEMBER 2004:

Clevedon Long Weekend Jazz Festival | 3-5 September

Jazz fans flock to the seaside town for this three-day festival. It promises a variety of jazz performances at different locations.

Bristol International Kite Festival | 4-5 September

Showcase of innovative kite designs, flying and stunt displays, workshops and stalls at Ashton Court.

Organic Food Festival | 4-5 September

Everything foodie from fruit and veg to chocolate and wine at venues around the Harbourside - run by the Soil Association.

Bupa Bristol Half-Marathon | 12 September

Ten thousand runners, including veterans like Nick Rose, pound the streets for blisters and charity.

Juvenile Diabetes Walk |19 September

The family-friendly five-mile walk is being held at Ashton Court on Sunday 19 September from 11.00 - 4.00pm. For more information and to register go to the JDRF website.
