A
popular Bristol festival might not take place next year - because
the organisers can simply find no place to go. |

here for the beer |

For
the last six years, the Bristol and district branch of CAMRA,
the Campaign for Real Ale, has run a highly successful beer
festival at the Council House, College Green.
The event has gained such a good reputation that over the last
few years tickets have sold out
As well as providing an entertaining night out, the festival
is a showcase for local breweries, giving local people a chance
to try beers rarely seen in Bristol.
Some beers are even brewed specially for the festival.
Unfortunately the refurbishment of the Council House means it
will not be available for use in Spring 2004 when CAMRA was
hoping to run its next festival.
Organisers are now appealing for help to find a new venue.
Branch chairman Richard Brooks explained:
"The Council House was great because it is a reasonable
size and is centrally located with plenty of access to public
transport.
"After all, although we do provide free soft drinks, a
beer festival isn't really the sort of event to which we want
to encourage people to drive!"
Mr
Brooks said a suitable venue needed to be secure (marquees don't
tend to be suitable), have a capacity for at least 500 people
and available to rent for the whole weekend plus a couple of
days set up time.
"Ideally it would be centrally located or near good public
transport, with decent toilet facilities and ideally good temperature
control, " said Mr Brooks.
Anyone with a good suggestion for a venue or connected with
a suitable organisation should e-mail the festival directly
