for this year's Orange Ashton Court Festival are moving along and the good news
is that it looks like headline act Robert Plant will be playing a good long set. |

The
former Led Zeppelin lead singer will be playing on the main stage on Saturday
evening, along with his new band Strange Sensation, which features Bristol musicians
Clive Deamer and Jim Baggott, both previously from the group Portishead.
In
past years some of the top acts attracted to Ashton Court have played rather
minimal sets, but a festival insider has assured the website that loves Bristol
that Plant will be on stage for at least an hour.
Plant,
who made his name in the 1970s with the legendary group Led Zeppelin now has a
huge following as a solo artist and fans are expected to descend on the festival
in droves.
Saturday's other main act, Plump DJs will be playing on the
Ampitheatre Stage.
The duo of Lee Rous and Andy Gardner, who formerly
worked in a cardboard box factory and as a waiter, actually got their name from
a top shelf girlie mag called Plumpers.
Meanwhile,
on Sunday, the top acts to look out for are Stephanie McKay on the Main Stage
and Electric Soft Parade on the Amphitheatre Stage.
US Soulstress Mckay
is also teaming up with a former Portishead member, this time Geoff Barlow, for
her performance.
Local
talent
Among
the heap of local talent to look out for during the weekend will be a new young
band specially chosen for the festival.
Festival organisers have been running
a competition to find a group of under 18s to kick off the music on Saturday -
the winners have not yet been announced, but we'll bring you all the news when
we have it.
As well as a host of bands and DJs the organisers are promising
plenty of other displays, stalls and activities going on throughout the festival
weekend which should keep the whole family entertained.
We've agreed not
to print a full listing of what's going on when, to encourage programme sales,
but you can pick up a programme from various outlets around the city including
Waterstones in the Mall and the Arnolfini.
And make sure you check out
this website during the festival weekend, 19th and 20th July, because we'll have
reporters there bringing you the latest news and pictures, plus pics and reviews
of the Plant gig and other bands playing over the two days.
