There are Christmas concerts to suit all pockets and musical tastes taking place in the city during December.
The city's first carol service takes place on the first Sunday in Advent

Sunday 1:

Lord Mayor's Chapel - Advent service.

Carols by candlelight starting at 6.30pm

Monday 2:

St. George's - BBC Radio Bristol's Christmas Crackers.

Join Radio Bristol's Returners Orchestra, opera singer Paul Potts and Bristol Brass Consort for an evening of festive music and readings.

Tickets are: £6, £8, £10 & £12 with concessions. (0117 946 7467)

Thursday 5:

John Wesley's Chapel, Bristol - Advent and Christmas service.

A lunchtime Advent service which starts at 1.10pm. (0117 926 4740)

St. Andrews Church Backwell - Carol service.

Backwell and Nailsea ladies choir singing carols and serving mince pies. Starts at 7.30pm.

Friday 6:

St. Mary’s Church Wedmore - Chard male voice choir charity concert.

A celebration of Christmas with carols by candlelight starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £2.50 for adults, children are free. Available from Wedmore Post Office.

Sunday 8:

Horse World, Whitchurch - Carol service.

Join the Bendix brass band for seasonal carols in a barn at Horse World. Refreshments are available afterwards. Starting at 2pm.

Methodist church, Silver Street, Nailsea - Carol service.

The ninth annual festival of carols and Christmas music with the Salvation Army. Starting at 2.30pm. Tickets are free, spaces are limited. (01275 852757)

Wednesday 11:

St. Peters Church, Henleaze - Christmas charity concert.

Henleaze lady's choir perform carols in their annual fund-raising concert. It starts at 2.30pm and refreshments are available.

Colston Hall - Carol concert.

St. George Community College perform their annual festive concert. They will be joined by choirs from other schools from the region. (0117 955 3141)

Thursday 12:

Avon Riding Centre for the Disabled - Nativity and carol service.

Watch a nativity performed on horse-back and join the Salvation army with their carols. The evening is free but please bring an apple or a carrot for the horses. Starting at 6.30pm. (0117 929 0266)

Friday 13:

St. John's church - Christmas concert.

Chilcompton ladies choir sing carols and are joined by three tenors.

Starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £2 for adults, children and students 50p. (01761 232734)

Saturday 14:

Tyndale Baptist Church, Whiteladies Road - Phoenix Choir and Music Box.

An evening of beautiful music to get you into the festive mood.

The Bristol Phoenix Choir sing Poulenc's Gloria accompanied by the soloist Rachel Skinner. With music sung by the children's opera group Music Box and Carols for All.

Starting at 7:30pm. Tickets: £6 and £4 concessions including refreshments in the interval. (On the door or from April Cottage, The Chalks, Chew Magna.

Wednesday 18-Friday 20:

Bristol Zoo Gardens - Family carol evenings.

Family Carol Evenings 6.30pm-9pm Wednesday Enjoy three winter sing-alongs with in the spectacular Bristol Zoo Gardens. Visit the Aquarium, Reptile House and Bug World. See Santa in his Grotto, enjoy funfair rides, BBQ and more.

Price: Adult: £3.80, child: £2.20 Annual Members: Adult: £3.00 Child £1.80 Group rate (15+): Adult: £3.50, child: £2.00.

A lunchtime carol service starting at 1.10pm.

Thursday 19 & Saturday 21:

Carols by Candlelight - St James Priory, Broadmead.

Following their inaugural broadcast on BBC Radio 4, Bristol's new chamber choir, Exultate Singers, present an evening of Christmas music by candlelight in St James Priory, Broadmead.

Starts at 8pm, tickets £8 (concessions £5), from St George's box office on 0117 923 0359.

Friday 20:

St. James Church, Romney Avenue - Lockleaze Carol service.

The carols start at 7pm followed by mince pies, tea and coffee.

Friday 20-Saturday 21:

St. George's - Bristol Bach Choir.

The Bristol Bach Choir's annual Christmas concert creates a wonderful atmosphere for the carols and readings chosen from around the world to celebrate the Christmas message.

The concerts start at 7.30 both nights. Tickets are £13 £10 and £7. (0117 92303590

Sunday 21-Monday 22:

St. George's - Emerald Ensemble Christmas Concert.

An evening of music, especially chosen for Christmas.

Featuring rising star soprano Angharad Gruffyd-Jones in Handel's recently discovered Gloria, and oboist Imogen Triner's performance of Vivaldi's breathtaking Sopranino Concerto.

The concert will also feature Bach's Air on a G String, Schubert's Ave Maria, Mozart's Alleluja from Exultate Jubilate, Vivaldi's Winter from The Four Seasons, Piazzolla's Winter and the traditional 12 Days of Christmas.

Tuesday 24:

Upper Horfield School, Sheridan Road - Christmas Eve Carol service.

Starting at 6.30pm followed by mince pies, tea and coffee.
