Animator Bob Godfrey will share the stage with stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen, who animated movies like Mighty Joe Young (1949) and Jason & the Argonauts (1963).

TV funnyman and Never Mind the Buzzcocks star Phil Jupitus will host an evening of questions and anecdotes with the two men.

The festival, which has moved to May to avoid refurbishment work at the Watershed, also boasts more than 50 British and international films and a chance to see all five of this year's Bafta-nominated short animations.

As usual there will be an industry day (May 9) with seminars, masterclasses and demonstrations of the latest digital animation techniques.

The pioneering animation which has come out of Manchester will be showcased in a retrospective featuring DangerMouse, Bob the Builder and the Manchester animators who brought them to the small screen.

A programme of shorts called Saints and Sinners, which look at religion, promises to have us outraged, shocked and rolling in the aisles.

To top it all off will be the announcement of the Audience Award winner which will be nominated for the most prestigious European animation prize - the Cartoon D'Or.
