Fitness
volunteer: update |

Three months
into our fitness programme, volunteer Rachel Patey is resorting
to radical changes to keep up her gym visits....

Dear Diary,
Three months into the programme, and I think I have settled down into
a comfortable routine.
Initially I wanted to do three to four visits a week to the gym but
I have found this difficult to achieve.
Instead I have opted to make some radical changes to my diet, along
with less rigorous gym schedule, in order to achieve my goals.
Originally I didn’t want to change my diet as I thought it would just
be about abstaining and depriving myself of things I enjoy, but I
have since found foods that are better for me that I like.

With the purchase
of a blender I am not enjoying wholesome smoothies and home made soups,
the creation of which I also find therapeutic.
But as we are always being told you must combine a balanced diet with
exercise, so I am exercising at a more leisurely pace with two visits
to the gym each week. I find this leaves me less exhausted, and I
am enjoying it more than when it used to be a chore.
Over Christmas I was out the country (hence no diary), and at one
point I visited the Venezia monument in Rome.
I first climbed this monument last March and just recall how exhausted
I was when I finally reached the top, this time, after a few months
of gym, I was barley breathing heavily.
This was the first time that I have been able to see what difference
gym has made to my level of fitness, and it has certainly inspired
me to continue.
