One of Bristol's most popular theatres has flung open its doors to reveal the secrets of the stage.

Thousands of theatre-lovers travel to the Bristol Hippodrome every year to enjoy a variety shows from ballet to pantomime.

The Hippodrome is primarily a touring venue and plays host to some of the top shows in the country.

The building in the centre of Bristol survived a massive fire in the 1950s. The main stage and many of the backstage rooms had to be rebuilt.

Since then the theatre has hosted all sorts of productions from ice skating to pantomine.

For more than 30 years John Randall has been the theatre's technical director. His team carry out their secret work behind the scenery and props almost every night of the year.

John gave Bristol Online a guided tour behind the scenes at the Hippodrome.
