The "Better Connected" review singled out the site for praise, and ranked it within the top ten in the country.

The Society of IT Managers carried out the reviews of unitary authority websites.

They said the South Gloucs website was a good example of where you could carry out online transactions.

These included requesting rubbish collection, reporting defective street lights, and paying bills.

High praise

Cllr Ruth Davies said she was happy the council's site had got this recognition.

"We know from our customer surveys that South Gloucs residents have higher than average access to the internet.

"This is a way for us to provide 24-hour information and access to our services."

South Gloucs Council say they are currently looking at a new e-mail news service, which they hope to launch soon.
