from Beatpimps, Hi-Fidelity, Casavibe, Dusted and 2Close took
turns on the wheels of steel before the legendary Good Looking
Records duo - LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad - representing Metric,
Fez's consistently excellent D&B night, closed the evening
in fine style.
What
a night it was too (and what a morning afterwards - if you
were also lucky enough to be sporting one of those special
wristbands; you'll know exactly what I'm talking about!!).
I
walked in to find a bumpin' garage set (I believe by Deli
G); watching the floor warm up nicely as feet started bouncing
and knees swinging.
I'm
not usually a big US garage fan but this was done nicely and
had me going with a very natural flow.
Dynamic
music
As
the night progressed, sounds moved through R&B flavours before
reaching what was should have been Scratch Pervert, Plus One's
set.
He
didn't turn up and although former UK DMC champion, Mr Thing,
stood worthily in his place; there was some trouble with his
set-up, resulting in annoying feedback; marring enjoyment
of his performance.
A
problem that was thankfully rectified by the time Bukem and
Conrad stood up to take control.
They
kept the vibe easy but fast-flowing from start to finish with
a selection of smooth, mostly liquid-led tracks; many of which
I doubt we'll see in the shops for a while yet.
A
clinical standard from Bukem, but the set was held together,
really, by Conrad's vibing presence and soulful vocal delivery.
The
dynamic music policy hosted at this event is definitely the
way forward - it brings together people who otherwise might
not: definitely a good thing!
